Details: A time for hope, to look longingly towards the future and a point of celebration of the year that has passed. An excuse for ruthless partying, hedonistic abandon and one thing above all; to make sure you don’t spend it watching the BBC’s Hogmanay. That’s why year after year the question of what to do for the event remains a fraught one, constantly toying between options in the face of a wealth of choice. So for the biggest night of the year you need something that won’t cause too many risks, yet still adhere effortlessly to the principles that make NYE the occasion it is. A tried and tested formula guaranteed to induce fun at every point, a sure-fire party that you, your mates, and every other mofo in the room with you will love to bits. The answer can be crystallised quite simply into three words... Chibuku Shake Shake.

Chibuku has done the same thing every New Years eve since they began, getting their merry bank of residents to perform and for one night only, shun the major guests. Whilst the entire year makes for gleefully collating line-ups to make eyes pop out, cause muscle spasms and create the same kind of pandemonium in ticket offices that four scruffy blokes with guitars did back in the sixties, New Years Eve goes back to basics. Undersold so the atmosphere remains a priority, underlined further with the fancy dress theme (this year it’s Chibuku verus Rumours – an 80s inspired special), it remains clubland’s most guaranteed benchmark of quality on the 31st December. Now as much as Chibuku NYE falls steadfastly into the qualitatives marked reliable, fool-proof and sure thing, one thing they can’t be held down as is complacent. This formula might represent a continuation of the consistency that has seen them as the North of England’s most exciting club for nearly eight years, but it certainly doesn’t represent resting on their laurels. In a year that has seen the likes of Derrick May, Theo Parrish, 2ManyDJs, DJ Marky, Skream and De la Soul joining Chibuku’s illustrious annals of guests, at their events at Fabric, Nation, spiritual home Barfly and one hidden forest in the Pennines, it’s the residents who have truly made the club what it is. Week after week setting the scene, soundtracking the afterparties and on many occasions proving to be the main event, no club in the country boasts a team as varied and talented as this club and NYE brings together some of the leading lights from Chibuku’s home-brewed stable along with a smattering of special guests.

As Liverpool hit’s its alleged apex of cultural activity, be in the place that’s contributed more than any this century. 2008 is going to be on heck of a year, and this will further mark Chibuku’s swagger into scouse history.

And don’t forget to dress up Rumours style!
