Get Signed Up With Fergie's Label Excentic: 15.05.08 |
Are you making the right noises in the studio? Maybe Fergie can help… iDJ Magazine and Excentric are offering a once in the lifetime opportunity that will move you from the bedroom to big league. Become part of Project Ex!
Here’s a competition where if you play your cards right you could come away with a promising career as a techno producer complete with a record deal. Yes, it really is this big. Read on as we explain the hottest competition since a certain fictitious chocolate magnate inserted golden tickets in the wrappers of five of his products.
Project Ex is an exciting hunt for new blood is being run by iDJ Magazine and Excentric, the DJ agency and record label run by Fergie, a man who knows how important support from the industry is for aspiring players. Taken on by the late great Tony De Vit over a decade ago, supporting new talent has been crucial to the Northern Irish techno merchant.
“When I first came to England Tony said to me ‘I hope you can do this for somebody some day’ and I’ve always thought about that,” Fergie explains. “It’s what I did during my days at Radio1, and Excentric is just an extension of that. It’s all about helping people to develop and making sure they avoid the many pitfalls there are in this game. When I was younger I got tied into various contracts and agreements with managers and agents and to get out of those contracts you’ve got to pay a substantial amount of money. I got stung, so we make sure this doesn’t happen with Excentric. When someone breaks through, and they’re looking for the next deal to take them to the next level they’re free to go. That’s what the game is; to help them progress without limiting them in anyway.”
It’s ideal for any budding techno producer. Proof that the Excentric ethos works can be found in Kevin Gorman - now signed to the mighty International DJ Gigolos (DJ Hell signed him personally), Gorman was originally nurtured by Excentric. Other artists on the roster include the hotly-tipped Jus’ Phil, Bigger Than Jesus, Ken The Men, Mr Henry Von, Dan Doran and Jordan X. All of whom are showcased at one of Excentric’s many nights around the country. A night which, if you’re lucky, you could play at, too…
“The gig is the easiest prize,” grins Fergie. “But things like that come around all the time and you win your set and that’s it. I want to genuinely help someone who’s got talent, if we find someone with proper talent I’ll properly nurture them with little gigs here and there, releases, digital releases. We’ll give them as many gigs as we can, sometimes it’ll be a warm up, other times it’ll be in a back room, but the support will always be consistent.”
