Bank Holiday Extravaganza at Ministry of Sound: 29.04.08

Ministry of Sound weekends have never looked so good, and as the first of not one but two bank holidays approaches, we’ve got music coming from two of the greatest names in dance music.

After a phenomenal launch last Friday, The Gallery kicks off our weekender with a man who stands tall as one of best known and respected DJs of all time, Paul Van Dyk. Bringing with him midi keyboards, Ableton ready laptops, and Allen & Heath mixers, Paul commands the dance floor by creating a sound that is totally unique to him. To say we’re excited about his return to The Gallery would be a gross understatement, after watching him tear up South West Four last summer and the after party at Brixton Academy, and then again at his album launch at KOKO... we’ve been waiting for just the right moment to get him who can back where he belongs!! Not only will Paul be headlining this, our second ever Gallery at the Ministry of Sound but in doing so will be dropping a very special 3 hour extended set to help us continue to adapt to our new surroundings.

Joining the main room action will be production sensation and in demand DJ, Kuffdam of Kuffdam & Plant. A favourite with the trance establishment worldwide, and especially Paul van Dyk and his Vandit imprint, 2008 will see Kuffdam come of age coupling a groundbreaking album on Vandit with extensive touring. It all starts here and setting the tone for Paul and Kuffdam are Gavyn Mytcell and The Viceroy. Still a young’un, The Viceroy continues to win plaudits and praise from all quarters both for his DJing combining a main room Gallery residency with that for his Vaccine brand and also for his production work.

Over in the bar, prog-god Jimmy van M puts in a very special 3 hour extended set. This is the perfect chance to catch one of The Gallery’s favourites at work, while in the Baby Box Do You Like it Dirty will be rinsing out the housier side of The Gallery in the small n’ cosy room at the back.

Moving onto Saturday and Pete Tong is back with Wonderland! It’s near impossible to find anyone with as much commitment and influence in dance music as Sir Pete Tong - always on the front line when it comes to new music. Now in its second year, Wonderland pioneers music that is normally reserved for the most exclusive parties in Ibiza and has sounds and beats that will surprise even the most devoted listens of Pete's Radio 1 show.

Joining Pete for this month’s instalment is the filthy curb-crawling new wave disco of Dirty South; get ready for a statement making set, bursting with personality and a lot of filthy electro beats! The slightly techy, progressive sound of Chris Lake completes the Box line up, complimented by Streetlife DJ’s ‘Streetlife Sessions’ with Lee Mortimer and We’re Not Cool! as special guests in the Bar.
