With the release of their sure fire hit 'What Planet You On' we at UK-CL caught up with Bodyrox to shoot the breeze.
1) Hey guys, how are you both after the festive season? What did you get up to?
We’re good thanks. We’ve been busy in the studio and DJing. I [Nick] was in Brazil. And I [Jon] went back to Australia for New Years Eve.
2) Any New Year’s resolutions we should know about?
We’ve both said we want to cut down on DJing this year. We played at nearly 200 gigs between us in 2007, in every corner of the World. It’s been great fun but it’s been difficult to find time in the studio.
3) 2007 was a great year for you both – worldwide touring, Ivor Novello nominations and an Essential Mix. What was your highlight?
2007 was incredible! There were too many highlights to mention. Obviously being nominated for an Ivor Novello was amazing, as was our MTV and IDMA nominations. We’re looking forward to another great year.
4) So, the new single is finally here! What took so long after the success of your Ivor Novello nominated ‘Yeah Yeah’? & how difficult was it to follow?
‘What Planet You On’ was actually finished before ‘Yeah Yeah’ got released. Unfortunately, mismanagement and label politics delayed the release, so it’s been difficult in that respect. To be honest, we’re just really happy it’s coming out now.
5) How did ‘What Planet You On’, come about?
Like I said, we finished the original idea over a year ago. Luci had done such a great job on ‘Yeah Yeah’, it made sense that she featured on this single too. Unfortunately (for the track), she signed a solo deal at the same time as ‘What Planet You On’ was signed which caused some additional problems delaying the release.
6) The track sees you team up once again with Luciana. Was this always the plan for the follow-up single?
Not really but Luci has a very distinctive voice that really works for us, so it made sense to use her for the follow up.
7) Are there any plans to work with other vocalists on any upcoming releases?
Yeah sure. We are currently speaking to a number of writers and vocalists about collaborations for our album.
8) What are Bodyrox’s plans for 2008?
We’re planning to take things a bit slower in 2008 to enable us to spend more time in the studio. We have some great ideas in progress, which you should be hearing about very soon!!
9) And, finally, this is the bit where you can shamelessly plug whatever you want?
Haha. ‘What Planet You On’ is out NOW! We hope you like it…
