New Manchester Venue - Moho Live: 20.11.07 |
When: Opening November 29th 2007
Where: Tib Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M1
New York has Soho, now Manchester has Moho - a Mancunian… Bohemian… thoroughly northern night out. The nocturnal landscape of Manchester has been rather somnambulant of late, but Moho is going to grab a hold of this great city and shake it firmly by its maracas, turning on the entire to the Manc groove.
Moho will provide a refuge for musical misfits and leftfield loonies. An entirely new, 500-capacity club. Moho is the brainchild of John Locke (erstwhile marketing guru of Band on the Wall and The Comedy Store) and the team behind the home of Manchester comedy, the Frog & Bucket. Yep, from December The Northern Quarter will finally have a nightclub of its very own, a truly independent locale set against an ungodly sea of uniform culture and anodyne chain venues. Moho will feature two rooms of sonic action and is also split into two distinct entities - Moho Live in the earlier evening, with live acts from the musical underground, then from 10pm the orientation will shift to Moho itself, a full-on club, with programming to include the most innovative promoters, DJs and creative talent that our city has nurtured, showcasing club nights, burlesque, and modern cabaret.
As John is also opening his very own pub, The Northern, just up the way on Tib Street, there will be a very different dynamic to The Northern Quarter as we gatecrash 2008, with a legendary hangover and a Jonesing for ever more kooky kicks. Opening on Thursday November 29th, some upcoming highlights include Prins Thomas (Full Pupp/Eskimo Recordings) presented by those purveyors of a perfect party - El Diablo's Social club -on December 1st; a gorgeous blend of funk, soul and house with Dave Haslam, who presents Sweet Sensation on the 15th; those indie kids Northside with a full live show on December 18th, and on Sunday 22nd an extremely special night with Crazy P playing live, followed by the Sick Trumpet DJs, with Development in the back room. And of course there’s the little matter of the New Year’s Eve party to end all again, hosted by our devilish friends El Diablo’s Social club.
So get boho at Moho… a musical mash-up in the holy guts of the Northern Quarter.
