Creamfields Rescues The Streetwaves Stage: 09.08.07

As the people of Liverpool pull together to rescue the Matthew Street Festival, Creamfields has stepped up to the plate and rescued the Streetwaves Stage.

The 10 winning bands from the Streetwaves competition run by the Liverpool Culture Company will all now get the chance to perform at the Creamfields festival, giving them a platform to perform in front of over 45,000 young people. Creamfields which takes place on Saturday 25th August has added an additional stage to the already bursting line up which features some of the worlds biggest electronic bands and DJs including The Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada, Kelis, Mark Ronson, LCD Soundsystem, Carl Cox, Erick Morillo + over 100 other acts.

The concept behind Streetwaves is to give talented musicians between the ages of 14-25 years old the opportunity to take the first steps into the music industry, get advice from industry professionals and gain valuable performance experience. The competition heats to find Liverpool’s freshest musical talent took place earlier in the summer with the winning bands winning a coveted slot at the Matthew Street Festival, due to the recent cancellation of Europes biggest outdoor festival, Creamfields will be the only event that weekend offering performers the chance to perform on a live outdoor stage.

Councillor Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool city council said: "The beauty of Streetwaves is that it gives up-and-coming artists the opportunity to perform in front of live audiences, and Creamfields will be an unforgettable experience for all the acts involved in this year's competition.”

James Barton Cream CEO says: “This was the most important stage at the Matthew street Festival, offering young musicians a chance to perform in front of a live audience, this is something that Cream is very passionate about and I’m pleased that we are in a position to be able to offer this support, we hope it will be a day that all the performers and their families will remember for a long time to come and I’m sure we’ll see some rising stars in the making.”
