The legendary Strictly Rhythm Records back at Ministry Sat July 28th: 19.07.07 |
After a four year hiatus the label that defined house music throughout the 1990s announces its return to the dance music community with an impressive launch party at Ministry of Sound on July 28th.
Headlining is Strictly original artist Kenny Dope who first released ‘Turn it Up / Turn it out’ in 1992 on the label and has since grown to be one of the best known DJ’s in the world with countless productions and remixes. He will be celebrating the release of the first mix album on the resurrected label, Strictly Rhythm presents Masters at Work.
Sharing the top bill is Strictly’s newest signing Osunlade who has recently released his critically acclaimed artist album ‘Elements Beyond’ on the label. Osunlade is an inimitable artist, it is true to say that there’s no-one in dance music quite like him. Lots of people make house music with a spiritual edge, but not many are actually priests. Yet that’s the case with Osunlade: he is a fully ordained priest in the African religion Ifa. He has a signature melodic deep and soulful sound, full of energy, perfect for the Ministry of Sound’s main room sound system. This is a rare DJ to catch in action and is not to be missed.
This first line up is symbolic of the labels ethos, to embrace its heritage and produce and promote new artists for the future.
It’s not just about the main room. In the bar you will find Defected label boss Simon Dunmore and ex Basement Boy DJ Spen delivering a set full of up front quality house tracks that will give the bar that huge party vibe that it is so well know for.
Phil Cheeseman who is the original Strictly label manager joins BBC 1Xtra’s Aaron Ross, to play all the Strictly Classics in the Lounge.
This event is also the official launch of Ministry’s new main room sound system, which has recently undergone a complete upgrade, installing a new custom built Martin Audio designed system, pushing the benchmark for quality of sound in the industry, and reinforcing Ministry of Sound’s reputation as housing the best sound system in the world!
Preproduction elements of these new speakers were secretly demonstrated to Dave Bradshaw, Head of Production at Ministry of Sound earlier this year. Dave commented “The difference was staggering between the original speakers and our new Martin Audio custom designed solution. We wanted to keep the floor stacked speakers as this has become a signature of the club over the past 15 years. Each new stack is a five way configuration and allows us to really drive the system efficiently to give crystal clear highs and thumping bass”.
