Set up by Alex Gold in 1996, an internationally renowned DJ and producer in his own right, Xtravaganza took the dance music scene by the scruff of the neck, introducing and developing artists that have gone on to become huge stars, including Chicane, Agnelli & Nelson and Public Domain. The current top 3 DJs in the world, Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren and Tiesto, have all contributed music to Xtravaganza. Now 10 years on, and off the back of a triumphant return to Privilege in Ibiza this summer, the time is right for an introspective look back at a brand that took dance music forwards into a new millennium, delivering hits that became seminal moments in dance music, and which continues to push the boundaries.
Alex Gold, whose extraordinary career has seen his involvement in over 55 UK top 40 hits, has hand picked some of the tracks that represent the best moments of Xtravaganza over the past 10 years, creating a huge triple CD collection to relive the memories of some wild nights and amazing music, and to restore your faith in dance music as we head into 2007!
CD1 delivers a collection of laid back mixes and classic down tempo tracks from the annals of Xtravaganza including Alex Gold ‘String Theory’, Paul Van Dyk’s opener on his recent ‘Politics of Dancing’ compilation, Acension ‘For A Lifetime’ (Lustral Sunset Mix), Chicane ‘Saltwater’ (Thrillseekers Ambient Mix) and Agnelli & Nelson ‘Slide’. These tunes have provided the antidote to a full on club night, for clubbers everywhere.
The tempo is upped for CD 2 and delivers genre defining moments from the trademark, cosmopolitan sound of Xtravaganza, like the huge no.1 from Chicane feat Bryan Adams ‘Don’t Give Up’ and the critically acclaimed collaboration of Alex Gold and the Human League’s electro legend Phil Oakey, ‘LA Today’. You can hear the progressive classic Tomski feat Jan Johnston ‘Love Will Come’ and the tune now adopted by the Irish tourist board as their international TV theme, ‘Saltwater’ by Chicane featuring Clannad. Bringing you up to recent times, one of the biggest club tunes to come out of Ibiza this summer, Phillipe B ‘Ibiza Mi Amour’, gives a nod to the future direction of Xtravaganza. DJ Disciple delivers ‘Work It Out’ his future electro Chicago / Detroit moment, demonstrating Alex Gold can still spot a big record, and Xtravaganza’s diverse appreciation of all genres.
Now everyone is warmed up, CD 3 takes over to get things rocking with some of the biggest, pumping tracks ever to hit dancefloors all over the world, including the top 5, million selling smash ‘Operation Blade’ by Public Domain, Agnelli & Nelson ‘El Nino’, Balearic Bill ‘Destination Sunshine’ (Tiesto Airport Mix), Voodoo & Serano ‘Blood Is Pumping’ and Cygnus X ‘Super String’.
