Details: Renowned for their unique ability to throw the perfect party anywhere across the globe, über-funky House specialists Hed Kandi are set to release their centre-piece compilation for the year; The Mix Summer 2007 – due on the 13th August.
Making the Mix 2007 that bit more special, Hed Kandi is delighted to announce the return of its original illustrator, Jason Brooks. Jason captures the glamour and style associated with this world-renowned brand. His illustrations fashioned the visual language of Hed Kandi and have played a significant part in the label’s appeal and success. Returning to the brand that first brought his work to a wider music audience, Jason will be working on a new portfolio of artwork for Hed Kandi’s unmistakable album sleeves and events.
Mixed to perfection, The Mix Summer 2007 effortlessly fills the boots of last year’s instalment, - Hed Kandi’s best selling compilation so far, which is no mean feat considering the label’s track record for delivering the goods time and again. Covering Disco vibes, Twisted grooves and classic Ibiza cuts across three CDs, Hed Kandi’s stylishly soulful essence is distilled with panache, into one essential album. Currently enjoying another record-breaking season out in Ibiza, The Mix 2007 captures the glamorous ambience of a dazzling night at Hed Kandi’s cherished El Divino residency.
Opening proceedings on the disco tip, CD1 kicks off with M’s Smooth ’54 Edit of Booty Luv’s Top Ten smash ‘Shine’, a devastating cover of the late, great Luther Vandross. German wunderkind Eddie Thoenik’s epic ‘Forgiveness’, a blistering Steve Mac reworking of Byron Stingly’s classic ‘Get Up (Everybody)’ and Alibi Vs Rockerfeller’s stunning cover of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’ take the energy levels through the roof as the mix gets hot; just like an oven. The return of Hed Kandi’s own Booty Luv with their superlative latest single ‘Don’t Mess With My Man’ and a run of Kandi’s most cherished floor filling favourites, including Junior Jack, the inimitable Freemason’s and Martin Solveig, all beautifully blended by the Kandi DJs, provide a shimmering climax to part one.
Moving onto late night vibes, CD2’s mischievous mood leads off with another chart stormer, in the shape of Gossip’s all conquering ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ which gets an unrestrained re-lick courtesy of Tronik Youth, that takes it deep into Kandi territory. The infectious chant of Armand Van Helden’s ‘NYC Beat’, replete with crunching bass and Big Apple attitude segues into this summer’s defining release, Freaks’ faultless ‘Creeps’, laying the foundation for a filthy ride into some of the rawest, cutting edge beats currently making Kandi nights a compulsory destination. Masters of the Twisted midnight manoeuvres, Funkerman & Fedde Le Grande and DJ Jeroenski go head to head with some quintessential House moments from the likes of Lisa Marie Experience and Nightcrawlers adding a delicious depth to the mix.
CD3 takes things to the heart of the truly classic sounds that encompasses one of music’s most iconic movements. A full on expedition through the white isle’s biggest party shakers from years gone by, the final disc is a nostalgic spine tingler. Xpress 2’s universally adored ‘Lazy’ gives way to the unmistakable refrain from the Mighty Dub Katz ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ opening the floodgates to fifteen gilt-edged pleasers all interwoven with subtle skill. Armand Van Helden’s adroit retouch for Tori Amos, David Morales’ ‘Needin U’, Tim Deluxe’s ‘It Just Won’t Do’ and Black Magic’s revered ‘Freedom (Make It Funky)’ all ensure this is a timeless treat that closes with the unparalleled magic of Frankie Knuckles’ ‘Your Love’.
An unparalleled journey through the mightiest moments in dance music, past, present and future, The Mix: Summer 2007 is this summer’s most indispensable release. |
