Circo Loco famed for
throwing spectacular parties at DC10 in Ibiza to
some of the wildest and wackiest crowds in Ibiza
had landed at the Ministry of Sound in London. With
such accolades written about Circo Loco it seemed
only fair that this reviewer packed his bags and
set off for the capitol in search of a night to
remember.
Well may be I had geared my hopes too high, I expected
to see a glamorous crowd dressed to the nines and
all I saw was a smattering of extraverence and a
crowd not to dissimilar to that of a ritzy. The
music was good, well better than good but you would
expect that from a line-up featuring Jo Mills and
DJ Cirillo however it wasn’t all that I had
come for. I was looking for the whole package, the
music and a venue sparkling enticing me to wander
and meet a hustling crowd dawned with party animals
from all walks. But alas this was not to be on this
night.
On speaking too many of the population in the venue,
it seemed that all had the same high hopes only
to see them dashed but not ruined. I myself and
everyone that we spoke to enjoyed themselves however
they were expecting a night to remember not a night
to sit with other good but not amazing nights.
The three main rooms within the Ministry offered
different experiences with regard to musically offerings,
with the Box offering a Dirty but pleasurable experince
in the musical sense with space to strut your stuff
and sets of differing tempos. The Bar offered a
frantic blend of house in a well lit smooth layout
and the Baby Box offered a funky set in a cramp
but emotional environment.
Overall I believe that I may have graded the Ministry
a little harshly as I expected so much, from the
venue that was a leading force 5 years ago. However
looking at the line-ups that are due to grace this
venue in the forth coming months I wouldn’t
write this giant off yet. All I ask is that the
Ministry makes me eat my words and give the people
of London what they deserve a venue which makes
your mouth water from the moment you leave, thinking
about the next time you’ll grace their floors. |
