It really must be a gratifying job
to be associated with the Renaissance organisation.
No matter when I attend, the evening is always fantastic.
September's birthday celebration was no exception!
This was a special club night for Renaissance. The
monthly event, is usually held at The Cross, London's
quaintly-stylish yet incredibly cramped venue in
the heart of (the not quite so nice) Kings Cross
neighborhood. However, for this special celebration,
London's hottest new venue, Pacha was selected.
With is glamorous decor inside, all I can say is
Nice Choice!
Despite the cranky bouncers who are always on the
door and the lengthy queues, (which I personally
do not think reviewers should have to stand in)
and the fact that you must cross a busy dance floor
to get to the cloakroom, the choice to hold it at
Pacha was an excellent one. The perpetual classiness
of the club compelled this evenings attendees to
dress to impress and walk around strutting their
stuff to the tunes.
Renaissance is a name immediately synonymous with
a certain musical vibe. This is a sound that continually
sells album after album and packs out the club night.
For one reason alone The music is absolutely fantastic!
This glamorous evening of Renaissance and Pacha
began with a funky sound provided by well-selected
DJs including an exclusive set by Groove Armada
that progressively built upon one another, ultimately
leading to one of the most captivating sets Nigel
Dawson has ever played. With one foul swoop, the
main room was lifted from the funkiest high to a
down and dirty sound which kept your feet in a magnetic
zone that never allowed you to move more than two
feet away from the dance floor.
This leads me to my one and only complaint, as is
usually the only one I ever have with Renaissance
(but not when they are in Ibiza). The capacity is
always so filled to the maximum. There is very rarely
the space needed to properly dance. (or sometimes
even moderately boogie) Come on guys, I'm not the
only one with this opinion. With Renaissance, the
music never lets you go and the crowd never tires
until the lights turn on. So, the usual crowd that
leaves a club around 3-4am at other club nights
don't here. Compensate for it and let in a few less
punters.
Renaissance comes to London every last Saturday
of the month. Nigel Dawson is resident and simply
not to be missed. Dress to impress - settle for
nothing less Renaissance is best! |
