Twice a year the people behind Miss
Moneypennys in Birmingham throw a party for the
crème of the glam House Scene in a secret
location somewhere in the British Isles. On Sunday
8th December Chuff Chuff, as these parties are known,
was held in a four-star hotel on the Northern Promenade
of Blackpool Beach.
The inside of the Hotel had been transformed into
three dance rooms and twice as many bars, decorated
to fit the allocated theme of the Wild Wild West.
Whilst everyone else in the country was tucking
into their Sunday Dinner, clubbers from all over
the country were arriving at The Imperial Hotel,
ready for an evening of hedonism and madness.
The music was strictly Funky House with Joey Negro
playing the headline set. Other Midland Heroes such
as Jim Shaft Ryan, Jeff Jefferson and London's finest
Norman Jay accompanied him.
A lot of effort had been put into the décor
of the venue with each room carrying a different
slant to the theme and as the party began to get
busy I enjoyed moving around the different rooms
and meeting lots of different people.
Almost everyone had dressed up in fantastic costumes,
with lots of Cowboys and Indians filling up the
place. The girls especially had really made an effort.
More than one it seemed had taken inspiration for
their outfits from Christina Aguilera's wardrobe!
As the night progressed more and more people piled
into the main room and were really going for it.
All available spaces were filled with dancers, some
on tables, and others on podiums. The other rooms
were quite empty by comparison with poor old Norman
Jay playing to a deserted dance floor. DJ Luvlee
managed to restore some order to the proceedings
by filling up Room Three quite comfortably.
All three rooms played strictly funky sets, with
Room One playing House, Room Two concentrating on
more alternative and Soulful Music and Room Three
playing House again. The Best tune of the evening
was definitely Thomas Bangalter and DJ Falcon "I've
got so much Love to Give" which got the crowd
going every time it was played.
Personally I found the repetitive Funky House got
a bit boring by the end, and it would have been
nice if the Music had gone a little bit progressive
and darker at stages, but I seemed to be the only
one with this gripe as everyone else was really
enjoying themselves.
There were lots of pretty girls to meet and talk
to, although a lot of them had arrived with their
boyfriends and those that didn't had all arrived
in a van with the label "Spearmint Rhino"
along the side. Still there were a lot of high spirits
and few laughs. One guy I spoke to informed me he
had just been given a private lap-dance in the privacy
of his hotel room by a very charming young lady
who he was desperately trying to find again before
the end of the evening. There were also a number
of girls who were working for Marlboro and were
promoting their cigarettes whilst dressed in some
rather fetching red costumes.
The Music stopped at 2am and everyone who was staying
at the Hotel moved upstairs to their rooms whilst
those who weren't left. At around half-three the
music began in the main room again and the party
continued to well past 6 o'clock, with the DJ's
mixing in Club Classics with more recent hits. The
Dance floor was packed well to the end with people
cheering for that ever-elusive last track to be
played again. The atmosphere was absolutely electric.
To
conclude it was a fantastic party, unlike anything
else in the country that I've been to at the moment.
The only point was that I had to travel so far to
enjoy it, hopefully the next one will be held somewhere
nearer to the South. |
